Most of you probably know by now that army service is saddly mandatory in Israel. Every Israeli enlists for 3 years of service at the age of 18.

Fewer of you know that it doesn't end there. After graduating from three gruling years of mud&blood, we have what we call "Miluim". The english term most commonly  used is "Reserve Duty". (30 days a year of either training or simple army duties).

This of course doesn't quite capture the essence of Miluim, but I like it for one reason - the puns that can be made - "reverse Duty", "preserve Duty" and many others running along the same theme. Imgine 30+ year olds reverting back to their teens. Doctors, artists,  businessmen, fathers... all go right back to farting, rude jokes and other typical adolescent behaviours. Miluim is both hell and anthropology heaven.
